Launching HbbTV applications from a broadcast channel
HbbTV application development and testing can be performed using different emulators. However, no emulator environment emulates 100% functionality of a receiver (e.g. televisions or set-top boxes). Therefore it is essential to validate any HbbTV application on a receiver before rolling it out to the end users.
Most televisions don’t provide a mechanism to start an HbbTV application directly and therefore they must be delivered to the television within a broadcast channel.
This section covers how to launch an HbbTV application from a broadcast channel. It includes:
- An introduction to transport streams
- An introduction to the Application Information table (AIT)
- A tutorial on creating an AIT
- Details on running an application on a television (hybrid terminal)
- A tutorial on setting up a test broadcast system (modulator)
